Every night I have the same fight.  With myself.  Should I blog or should I sleep?  Com’nmommy bloggers, you know this fight.

After a long day of “ings” – cleaning, cooking, breastfeeding, changing, driving, shopping, playing – sometimes the last “ing” I want to do is blogging.  Now don’t get me wrong, I truly LOVE what I do.  My blog is my happy place.  It’s where I go to release my creativity, share my ideas, and vent to anyone willing to listen.  But mama, this whole blogging thing is hard work.

As a blogger, I’m constantly brainstorming topics to write about.  I keep these ideas in a journal and once the kids are in bed, I whip that journal out and get to work.  But my work doesn’t stop there.  In addition to physically writing blog posts, I have many other tasks on my blogger to-do list.  I have to stay active in the blogging community – reading, liking, and commenting on other blogs.  I have to keep my social media accounts updated.  I have to create eye-catching graphics.  I have to build relationships with sponsors.  The list goes on and on.

The problem is that I love it.  I love working on my blog.  I love reading other blogs.  I love networking with other mamas.  Some nights, once I finish everything, I look at the clock and see that it’s 2am.  All I can think is that my toddler is going to be up in 5 hours and there’s still so much I want to do.

By now, you may understand my dilemma.  To blog or not to blog – that is the question.  My advice to you mamas who are aspiring to start a blog of your own?  Find your balance.  Remember you need sleep to function, as a mommy and as a blogger.  Don’t save all of your work for when the kids are asleep.  Fit little tasks in throughout the day.  For instance, I take care of all social media while I’m nursing.  It’s the little things.  And it’s okay to choose not to blog some nights.  The world isn’t going to end, mama.  Get yourself some beauty sleep and write two posts tomorrow.

  1. My blog is an occasional creative outlet for me, but my main one is my Etsy store. Nap times are good for working, and when they are happy to play on their own. On a good day I can usually sneak in an hours work, in 10 minute increments. I rarely work in the evenings. Far too tired by then.

  2. Finding my balance was so hard but I love my blog, what it gives me (a creative outlet) so I have blogging time early in the AM and late at night. It’s something that I have to fit in because it’s important to me.

  3. I’m so glad I found this! I’ve decided to finally dive into this pool after debating it for over 2 years!! I’m still in my planning stages for posts for the most part and I’ve already lost more sleep then I’d like to admit. But I’m with you in that I already love it. It’s definitely getting my creative juices flowing and I sure did miss that!
