Since becoming a mom, I’ve found myself having less and less phone conversations. Texting has become my default form of communication. Because, It’s kind of hard to hold an actual conversation with a three-year-old screaming “poop!” repeatedly in the background.
But, since becoming a mom of two, even my texts have become a bit lackluster. Sometimes it’s just easier to send an emoji, rather than a thoughtful response. And let’s be honest – there are times that these little guys can communicate exactly what we’re thinking way better than words ever could. I know I’m not the only mama taking advantage of the emoji language. And since Webster has yet to add emojis to the dictionary – I’m going to break down some of my favorites for you…
So, What exactly do moms mean when they send an emoji?
😊 The generic smiley. You’ll probably receive this when I’m too tired to come up with a witty/interesting response. Don’t take offense – it’s not you, it’s me.
😁 Wish me luck! I’m about to embark on a brave parenting journey. Like taking the baby out in public without a pacifier. Or going to the bathroom alone.
😂 I’m literally laughing out loud. Probably at my own expense.
😒 I’m NOT amused.
😍 I love my kids so much. Like really. I think they’re the most beautiful creations on the planet. I can’t control my love!
😘 I’m probably bribing you to do something for me if I send you this one. Can you watch the kids while I get my nails done? K, thanks, love you!
😑 I can’t believe this is my life. Not in the OMG I love my beautiful children! kind of way.
😖 I’m about to lose it. My choices are to punch something, run away from home, or send you this emoji. I chose the emoji.
😔 I’m disappointed. Probably because the babysitter cancelled.
😳 I’m at a loss for words. My kid’s probably playing with his own poop right now.
❤️ I love you, but I’m too sleep-deprived to type the words out.
💪 I’m feeling a bit like Super Woman today.
🙏 I’m praying. I’m praying the kids nap, sleep in, eat their dinner, stay at grandma’s, etc.
👯 I’m doing my happy mama dance because my prayers were answered. See above.
💁 I’m feeling pretty confident in my parenting skills today.
🙊 The kids did something that I probably should be disciplining them for, but I can’t stop laughing.
🎉 Time to celebrate! Sometimes this is accompanied by the following emoji.
🍷 This one needs little explanation. Mama needs wine. Mama needs wine NOW.
👑 I’m the queen. And don’t you forget it.
