Today is my baby sister’s 16th birthday. I remember the day she was born like it was yesterday. I remember screaming and dancing in the street, “I have a sister! I have a sister!” Sorry to my brother, but there’s just something about the bond between sisters – there’s nothing like it. Lucy was my little baby doll from day one. She was my little guinea pig. She taught me how to be a mommy, before I was a mommy. And as she’s grown up, she’s become one of my best friends.
Today my little 4 pound baby doll gets her license and a car! How could this be?!
I want to make sure my sister’s birthday is as fun, and as special, as possible. However, there’s also the side of me that also loves practical gifts. So here’s what I came up with: a you’re-getting-your-license gift basket! I tried to think of every possible thing she might need for her new car, with the addition of a couple of fun items, and this is what I came up with…
New Driver gift basket:
- an umbrella
- an ice scraper
- an air freshener (cupcake scented, naturally!)
- a cupholder-sized pack of gum
- a travel cup
- new sunglasses
- sunglass visor clips
- a phone charger
- a quirky keychain
- a flashlight
- emergency items: Tylenol, Band-Aids, Kleenex, a lint roller
- a $5 Starbucks gift card (with a note that says “Enjoy a coffee on me”)
- a $5 Taco Bell gift card (with a note that says “Enjoy an after-school snack on me”)
If time and money were no object, I could have added a new wallet, a gas station gift card, and a gift certificate for a car wash.
I also ordered flowers to have delivered to her at school. She’ll either love them, or be totally mortified. I may be a practical mama, but I’m also a fun sister. I can’t wait to see her reaction. 😉
What else would you add to a 16th birthday gift?
